APPLYING FOR

PUBLIC BENEFITS

Our Case Managers gather all required documents, apply for, and advocate for IHSS, SSI, SSDI, MediCal, MediCare, and CalFresh, and more. We frequently revisit eligibility for additional benefits as your family member’s life circumstances change. Our Benefits Planners, certified through Cornell University’s Benefits Practitioners training series, assist our Case Managers when complicated situations arise.

FINDING & SECURING AFFORDABLE HOUSING

Our Case Managers are knowledgeable about local housing resources as well as current and upcoming opportunities. We routinely help people apply for and secure housing, including leveraging our knowledge of local housing resources, tracking current and upcoming opportunities for vouchers, subsidies and below-market rate units. We stay up to date on the waitlists for Section 8 Housing vouchers and other affordable units and complete timely applications for housing appropriate to your family member’s needs.

DEVELOPING

LIFE SKILLS

Our Case Managers assist individuals with budgeting and managing their resources, using methods adapted to their unique needs and skills. We help people learn to grocery shop on a budget, plan and prepare meals, and schedule regular household tasks and cleaning. We support individuals to maintain their homes as independently as possible.

COORDINATING

MEDICAL APPOINTMENTS

Our Case Managers assist with making appointments and can accompany individuals to appointments, if desired. We can document what takes place at each appointment and -- with signed releases of information -- share their case notes with designated family members, keeping you up-to-date about your family member’s health and medical needs.

“They achieved the impossible: helping to secure a section 8 voucher in Berkeley! Kudos to all the assistance you have provided over the years in affordable housing search, supported living support, and counseling families living with disabilities. We are enormously grateful parents.

"In the three years that you and your associates have been helping my brothers I've noticed that David is more communicative and will actually offer something to a conversation. Our mother was always very worried about Rick and how he would get by after she passed. Your program has provided the safety net our mother was hoping for, as well as minimized a lot of worry and stress on me. I truly appreciate the work and effort of your organization."
